Agricultural and horticultural premises are considered to be locations of increased electric shock risk because of the lower contact resistance of the body that is associated with, for example, wet hands, wet clothing and wet footwear, and because of the increased likelihood of contact with the general mass of Earth (i.e., the ground).
Electric shocks in such conditions are more likely to cause serious injury or death than those where the conditions are dry and no contact is made directly with the general mass of Earth
The risk of electric shock to livestock can often be greater than for people, because some livestock have a large exposed body area for contact with exposed-conductive-parts and/or extraneous-conductive-parts. Also the feet of livestock are likely to be in contact directly with the general mass of Earth, often in wet conditions.
Specialist electrical installation techniques are often used within horticultural and agricultural premises; therefore experience of these premises is essential when carrying out Periodic Inspection Reports on these electrical installations.
ESI: Electrical Safety Inspections Limited are able to provide a full electrical inspection and testing service to all types of horticultural and agricultural premises. ESI: are also able to install and maintain all aspects of existing electrical installations in these premises, contact us for more information.
